Piercing Heaven

acrylic on paper
22 x 30 framed

While the mighty Church rises high there are dark forces corroding it. The spires ascending upwards might be pricking rather than caressing the heavens.  In this instance the theme came after painting over a failed work. Acrylics lend themselves to working in layers. Sometimes changing effects arouse new ideas. The underlying textures created a sense of mystery, the shapes a mere suggestion of the once elegant towers. I like the way that a window of relative transparency suggests hope for a passage through the darkness.
